Week 1: Goal #1- Accountability
Accountability- Holding students, teachers, administrators, and parents responsible for their actions.
The role of the school board is to develop and adopt policies, give guidance and direction to the Superintendent, set district goals, monitor progress, approve expenditures, adopt a budget, assess facility needs, and communicate with the community. If elected to the governing body of the Pierre School District by the people, I believe it is our role to hold individuals accountable.
Merriam Webster defines accountability as "an obligation or willingness to accept responsibility or to account for one's actions.'' The focus here is not the negative side of accountability but what I see is the neutral side of the definition.
If a student, parent, teacher, or administrator does something right then, they should "account" for their actions, and the board should recognize the accomplishment. Likewise, if someone does something wrong against the district's policy, the individual should "account" for their action, and the board should take appropriate action.
